See Yah Ball

As of right now I am sitting in the fourth row and the fourth chair back in Mrs.Boerma’s  classroom I look out the window and see all of the snow melting that we have been getting which makes me think about last years baseball season. Ofcourse the only thing that people think about when it comes to baseball is the big Major League players like Mike Trout who can send the ball almost five hundred feet. Another common thing to think about is the Major League Serious which is the best two teams of that year compete in a serious of games that shows who the better team is.

Last year was a big year for the sophomore and junior class as we made it to the state tournament which hasn’t been done for a long time. In order to make it to state we had to win nine elimination games in a row which we ended up doing. Our small team had to go up against the big boys in the Four A class and we ended up beating them. Going to state was such a big accomplishment that most of the team decided to die our hair blonde.

When I played for this VFW baseball team my job was subbing in at right field and only hitting about once every three games which I didn’t like. When the playoffs started the people that were in my position were not hitting or fielding so well. Coach decided to start me one game and it couldn’t of made me more excited. For the nine elimination games I had a batting average just around the five hundred range which was leading the team in batting for playoffs. Then came the double header to go to state.

As I sat in the dugout getting ready to go warm up, all I could see was giants across the field. I am only five foot ten and when I looked across the field I didn’t see a single person under six foot tall. Our team did not start out hot as the six foot four giant with long blonde hair was rolling through our batters striking out the first eight in our lineup including me. They ended up smacking the ball against us in the first inning putting up two runs which is very nerve recking when your season is on the line. All of a sudden the big giant on the mound was having a hard time throwing strikes and walked two batters in a row which brought me up to the plate. This pitcher threw the ball so hard that you couldn’t even see the ball, you could only hear it. I stepped into the plate waiting for the first pitch to come and all I was thinking was fastball, fastball, fastball. He kicked up his leg was about to throw the ball. I loaded back waiting for the pitch to come in as I swung as hard as I can. Crack, went the baseball which was going deep left center field. I got on my horse and headed for the races as I watch the ball bounce of the fence which was covered in thick green plants. The umpire yelled ground rule double and I ended up scoring the two runners ahead of me which kept our baseball team on a rally and we ended up scoring four that inning. From diving and taking balls off the chest the other team didn’t score again the rest of the game. The whole team gathered in a huddle and cheered as we just made it to the state tournament and then lined up to get our first place medals from the VFW baseball committee.

Last years season of baseball was for sure the funnest season of baseball I have ever had and more than likely will ever have. It was truly a blessing to part of such and great such with such good buddies and coaches. Last years baseball season will never be forgotten.
